On September 2nd, 3 new partnerships were approved by the Board of the Foundation: with CEAS to transfer skills to small farmers facing climate change issues in Burkina Faso; with APPA-APMM to control the reproduction of endangered endemic species and produce a marketable fish for household consumption and restocking of local lakes and rivers in Madagascar; with The Olonnes Nakar-Héliopole to improve the healthcare and living conditions in a village in Burkina Faso through the solar electrification of the health centre, the school and the local market.
In addition to this, our initial partnerships signed with FEB in Egypt, GREF in Morocco, Teranga Africa Odsams Millau Mali in Mali and SOL-GH in Ghana were renewed.

The rehabilitation work in the Diban village is underway. In the school, a ceiling resistant to heat was installed in the principal's office. Two blocks of three classrooms were refurbished. Their roof was completely redone, thus preventing rainwater infiltration. Both the new buildings and the old ones were freshly repainted. Moreover, given the dilapidated state of the clinic and maternity, work was added to the program. The delivery room and the treatment room have been completely repainted.

39 students (boys and girls) voluntarily participated in the Gentiana Primary School's activities. The environmental activities included:
1. Forest clearing - a portion of the Ngong forest was cleared by the students to enable them to walk freely in the forest. This activity also raised awareness on the need to conserve endangered tree species.
2. School compound tending - students helped the guardian to look after the school's trees and vegetation during the weekends.
3. Naming trees - students were taught the indigenous and scientific names of species in order to sensitize them on the need to protect trees.

The refrigeration of vaccines and medication is now possible in the Borgou village: the hospital has received a refrigerator for this purpose. Its electricity consumption is relatively high, however, the current consumption of 3.6 kWh per day is much lower than the daily 5.8 kWh for which the new solar equipment was designed.

During these six months, 84 operations were performed on 69 children. Among them, 40 received successful skin grafts and 29 were treated for skin retraction and correction of hypertrophic scars. One child underwent orthopaedic surgery for the treatment of ankylosis in a specialized hospital.

The construction work of the Maison de Fati is progressing well. The centre will provide a place to host children and adults affected by the noma disease and going through pre and post-operative treatments.

The transects initiated in December 2008 and renewed in June and September 2009, were conducted in order to monitor the population of addax in Termit - Tin Toumma, using the established counting method. This allows data collection over a full annual cycle, during the cold, hot and rainy season.

3 new partnerships were approved by the Foundation's Board on January 22, 2010: with FUGAPE to finance a pilot farm in Cameroon; with GEDE Foundation to provide children affected by AIDS with access to education in Nigeria ; with Tuwapende Watoto to build a school to welcome both the children from the orphanage and the local community in Tanzania. In addition to this, our initial partnerships with PSP in Mali and TIM-SFV in Madagascar were renewed.

New training sessions were conducted in the village of Tidili, located at an altitude of 2,000 m. The same educators as last year performed 4 training sessions: 2 on early childhood education and 2 on management of documentation centres and library administration. A total of 8 educators and 13 teachers were trained.

The construction of the two additional family units has been completed according to the initial plans. An opening ceremony was organised. Furniture and kitchen equipment were purchased thanks to a private donation. An updated list of the orphans' records was made: 48 children are accommodated in the orphanage on a permanent basis and 25 during school holidays.
