Solar energy in a hospital

Ingénieurs & Architectes Solidaires (IAS) is an association made up of engineers, architects, students and anyone else interested in alternative technologies. This group of professional volunteers designs and develops energy and water-related devices and systems for developing countries. The aim is to improve the living conditions, health and comfort of these populations in a sustainable way and reduce inequalities amongst them.

The adduction of drinking water by using solar electricity and the supply of solar energy in the Borgou-Togo hospital is a project which aims to provide:

  • suitable lighting in the surgical units for night time operations;
  • refrigeration of vaccines and medicines to ensure appropriate preservation.

The objective of IAS' project, supported by the Addax Foundation, is to ultimately reduce the risks of child and maternal mortality, as well as improve health care for the local populations.
