Poultry breeding to enhance local development
The project's aim is to establish a pilot poultry farm producing 2,000 chickens, which are then bred and sold in the local markets. The profits generated are reinvested to further develop the project. In addition, members of the Fédération des Unions GIC (Groupes d'Initiative Commune)* Agro-pastoraux d'Evodoula (FUGAPE) and other candidates are being trained in poultry farming.
Based on the pilot farm, ten barns containing 200 chickens each, will be built within the borough's ten CIGs in Evolouda. To strengthen production, each farmer is provided with basic material. In order to sustain the groups' activities and secure investments, development monitoring and financial management is provided to the various farms over a period of three years.
Founded in October 2005 in Yaounde, Cameroon, the Fédération des Unions GIC Agro-pastoraux d'Evodoula (FUGAPE) focuses on improving the production of local species. Through technical support and training, it aims to make rural environments conducive to sustainable and profitable production. FUGAPE ‘s objective is to mobilize its members in order to promote and defend their interests. In the borough of Evolouda (Lékié department in the Central Region), FUGAPE has approximately 100 members, most of which are women and youth, grouped into ten CIG.
The Addax Foundation will be funding the following actions over a period of three years:
- establishing a pilot poultry farm in the Evolouda district;
- providing training in poultry breeding and capacity building for the members of the ten CIG;
- to technically support and facilitate the installation of the trained farmers;
- monitoring the activity.
