Play to Learn, education through sport & play
The "Play to Learn" programme in Benin teaches important conflict resolution skills including teamwork, fair play and communication. It is also used as an effective motivator for children's performance and increased attendance at school.

In addition to the provision of physical benefits, this sport and play programme actively engages children and teenagers in their own development, which is a primary agent in the evolution of future generations.
The programme directly addresses the following four key issues:
- physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of children
- community awareness around national health and disease prevention; priorities, including HIV and AIDS, malaria and immunization;
- rehabilitation and reintegration of children/orphans affected by disease, poverty, local conflicts, etc.;
- community development.
This programme is run by Right to Play (RTP), an international NGO which uses sport and play programmes to improve health, life skills and foster peace among children and communities in the most disadvantaged areas of the world. RTP uses sport and play as tools for learning at community, national and regional levels. They are also an excellent medium for HIV and AIDS awareness.
Benin has received a large number of refugees from various African countries who have fled their respective homelands due to conflict. The Kpomasse Refugee Camp welcomes approximately 1,000 refugees from Togo, Nigeria and Congo. The Republic of Benin has developed a ten-year plan to address early childhood education and child protection especially amongst the most vulnerable groups.
Through it support to the "Play to Learn" programme in Benin, the Addax Foundation contributes to the tackling of key educational challenges, such as school retention (of girls in particular), quality of learning resources, gender equality and inclusion. Improving health education and HIV and AIDS prevention is also a strong part of the programme.
